Delivering Inclusive Spaces at a Local School
We are proud to have recently completed a two-phase project at a local school. This was to improve the educational environment to support learning and wellbeing.
We had previously worked with this school to successfully deliver a classroom extension, so we were delighted to be invited back to complete a renovation of the hydrotherapy pool area. This ongoing partnership reflects the strong working relationship we have built with the school community.
Phase One – Creating Inclusive Learning and Social Spaces
The first phase of the project focused on extending the current space and renovating the outdoor play area.
Works included the extension of an existing classroom, creating a larger and more functional teaching space. Alongside this, we constructed a new canteen area, specifically designed to be accessible and suitable for children with disabilities.
Accessibility was a key priority throughout, with doorways widened to improve ease of movement and ensure compliance with inclusive design standards.
Externally, the learning environment was enhanced through the creation of a new play area and pathway. We also installed an astro turf surface outside of the classroom extension. This provided a safe and accessible outdoor space for pupils to enjoy.
Phase Two – Hydrotherapy Pool Refurbishment
Following the success of Phase One, we were asked to return to the site to deliver the refurbishment of the school’s hydrotherapy pool area. This is a vital facility supporting pupils’ health and wellbeing.
Our works included widening doorways to improve accessibility, alongside upgrades to internal finishes. We carefully prepared the walls and tiled surfaces, which were then coated with a specialist epoxy paint system to create a hygienic and durable finish.
Working in a Live School Environment
Delivering both phases within a live school environment required careful planning, coordination, and a considerate approach. Our team ensured work was carried out safely and efficiently, to ensure minimal disruption to staff and pupils.
We worked closely with the school community, allowing us to fully understand the needs of the students and ensuring that all spaces were fit for purpose.
